What is a Digital RC Book / Vehicle Registration Certificate?▼
The Vehicle Registration Certificate (RC), commonly known as the RC Book, is issued by the Regional Transport Office (RTO) certifying your vehicle is registered with the Government of India. The Digital RC is the official PDF version available on the Parivahan Sewa portal (parivahan.gov.in). It is legally valid and equivalent to the physical RC card under the Motor Vehicles Act.
How do I download my RC Book PDF from Parivahan?▼
Go to parivahan.gov.in → Click "Vahan Services" → Select "Print RC" → Enter your vehicle registration number and chassis number → Verify with OTP → Download the PDF. The downloaded file is a 2-page PDF containing the front and back of your RC card.
Is the digital RC legally valid for driving?▼
Yes. As per the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act 2019 and MoRTH circulars, the digital RC on DigiLocker or the Parivahan portal is legally valid and must be accepted by traffic police. A printed copy of the digital RC is also accepted as a valid document for vehicle verification.
